Weight is useful, but incomplete
GSM states mass per square meter. It does not by itself establish opacity, softness, durability, warmth, shrinkage, or quality. Fiber, yarn, construction, finishing, and garment design also matter.
Match the structure to the job
Jersey, piqué, fleece, woven shells, and performance knits behave differently under movement, heat, wash, embroidery, and print. We shortlist directions after the use case is clear.
